Understanding Microsoft SmartScreen & Reputation Signatures
When you download newly released independent software, Microsoft SmartScreen may display an informational alert ("Windows protected your PC").
SmartScreen uses a cloud reputation algorithm based on global download volume. Whenever a new binary version or update is published, it starts with neutral reputation until enough downloads have occurred globally across Windows installations.
Because NeXDM publishes regular speed and stability optimizations, each new SHA-256 build builds its reputation independently. You can always cross-reference the hash against VirusTotal for independent verification.
